In order for engineers to construct a Ferris Wheel, careful thought has to be considered in regards to Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The focus for our project consisted of carts with masses suspended with a spring and damper system on the circumference of the wheel. The finite element analysis problem involved the effects on the carts’ displacement, velocity and acceleration when they are subjected to a constant angular velocity. Moreover, due to this constant angular velocity, in depth analysis was conducted to verify the stress of each truss on the Ferris wheel. The approach in implementing the analysis consisted of solving ODEs (for the displacement, velocity and acceleration matrices) using Time Integration. With these calculations, the stress values were calculated numerically and compared with the miniature model.
